Daily District — Privacy Policy

Daily District is an educational game developed by a Carnegie Mellon University teaching professor. This page explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We aim to collect as little as possible and we never sell your data.

What we collect

Account info. When you sign in, we store your email address (and, if you use Google, the name Google provides). This identifies your account so your stats and once-per-day play work.
Optional profile info. You may add a display name, phone number, and city/state. These are optional — you can skip them and edit or clear them anytime from the account menu.
Gameplay. Your guesses, results, and times for each daily puzzle, so we can show your stats and the leaderboard. If you play without an account, we record only the anonymous outcome (won or lost) — with no name or account identifier — to count overall play.
Basic device info. To improve the interface we record non-identifying technical details — screen/viewport size, device type (mobile/desktop), browser type, language, and time zone. We do not collect your IP address or precise location.

How we use it

To run the game (accounts, daily play, stats, leaderboard).
To understand how the game is used on different devices and improve the UI.
If you opt in, to email you occasional updates. You can opt out anytime.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your account or profile information with advertisers. We do show third-party ads to help keep the game free — see Advertising & cookies below.

Advertising & cookies

Daily District displays ads served by Google AdSense to help support the game. In connection with these ads:

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Daily District and other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

Where it's stored

Data is stored in our database provider (Supabase). Access is restricted so that you can only read your own account and profile information.

Your choices & rights

Skip or edit the optional profile fields anytime (account menu → Edit profile).
Opt out of update emails anytime.
Request access to or deletion of your data by emailing the address below (relevant to GDPR/CCPA rights).
